Unfortunately, due to the illegal export of trapped birds and a destruction of their native habitat, Green Cheeked Amazon parrots are classified as endangered on the conservation status spectrum. The worldwide population is believed to consist of about 1,500 individuals, and is sadly dwindling. This attractive avian friend is sure to be a welcome addition to your home, but keep in mind they need tons of attention!
Due to trapping and trade issues, some members of the green-cheeked Amazon parrot's family have been placed on the endangered species list. Several efforts are ongoing in an attempt to preserve this breed, and studies are being done to determine how many of these birds are left and how to protect those that remain. In addition, trade is being heavily regulated, and imports of these birds to other countries are being monitored. The green-cheeked Amazon parrot itself is fairly plentiful at this time.
