S.T.E.M., which stands for Science Technology Engineering and Math, is the most influential approach in education today and rightfully so, as these disciplines are shaping the world of tomorrow. In fact, jobs in S.T.E.M. fields rose from one million in 1960 to nearly six million by 2011, and the U.S. Bureau of Labor predicts S.T.E.M. employment will grow nearly 20% from 2010 to 2020.

However, despite the growing demand of exciting and lucrative career opportunities, women and minorities remain underrepresented in these fields. Why? Because they’re not being engaged in these fields as young girls and boys. At Safari, we believe every child is born with untapped potential. It just needs to be fostered from a young age, and that’s what Safariology® is all about.

Safariology® encourages interest in S.T.E.M. subjects during the developmental years by providing educational experiences that focus on hands-on learning in subjects such as astronomy, evolution, biology and more. For example, the Solar System set includes miniature highly detailed models of the sun and the eight planets of the solar system, with an included acetate tray that allows them to be placed according to their relative orbits.

Other Safariology® originals include The Mega-10 Magnifier, which features 4x and 10x magnification to give kids an up-close look at specimens. The World’s Best Bug Jar takes this to the next level, allowing kids to securely collect live insect specimens and view them up close with a flip-up magnifier built into the lid.

Our Life Cycle figures help kids understand biological processes and the changes certain organisms go through. For example, children can learn how a caterpillar cocoons itself to become a butterfly, how a tadpole hatches from an egg and grows into a frog, and how many other organisms make the journey from birth to maturity.

For safe fun with electricity, there’s the Safari Energy Ball, which engages children with red flashing lights and pulsing sounds when they create a successful electrical circuit using their finger. This demonstrates the principles of electricity without any danger of electric shock, while providing a fun spectacle of sound and light, especially in the dark!

Our ultimate Safariology® tool is the Optic One, a handheld device that includes a built-in compass, monocular, binoculars, signaling mirror, magnifiers (2x and 4x) and a magnifying mirror. It’s the perfect all-in one gadget for budding backyard explorers!

Safariology® brings children interactive tools designed to stoke an interest in the subjects that will shape the world they enter as young adults. It’s never too early to encourage your children to learn about the wonders of science, technology, engineering and math. Plant the seeds of S.T.E.M. early with Safariology®.
