Quick Overview

Don’t worry, although scorpions have a reputation for being venomous and dangerous, you have nothing to fear from this figurine! Did you know that scorpions are actually members of the Arachnida class, making them close relatives of spiders?

  • Scientific Name: Order Scorpiones

  • Characteristics: The evolutionary history of scorpions can be traced back nearly 450 million years ago to the Silurian period. Since then, they’ve evolved to include around 1750 different species – this wonderfully hand painted fellow included!

  • Size and Color: 9.25 inches long and 3.5 inches wide, this scorpion model is about as wide as a deck of cards and nearly as long as the wide of a standard sheet of paper. With a bright yellow and orange carapace, this scorpion would blend in best in an arid, desert environment.

  • The Scorpion is part of the Incredible Creatures® collection.

  • All of our products are Non-toxic and BPA free.

Here’s a cool fact: almost all scorpion species are known to glow a vibrant blue color when exposed to certain wavelengths of ultraviolet light. This is a result of fluorescent chemicals contained in their exoskeleton. Scientists aren’t exactly sure why scorpions glow under UV lighting, but some theories are that it protects them from sunlight, it helps different scorpions find one another, and that it could help confuse potential prey and predators.
