Hippos - 192 pcs - Good Luck Minis®
The name Hippopotamus means River Horse, and Hippos truly do love the water. In fact, if one looks at a map of rivers in sub-Saharan Africa, one is also looking at the range of Hippos. They spend much of their days in the water and are never far from it.
Although Hippos no longer live in the lower Nile areas of Egypt, the massive beasts were once important elements of Ancient Egyptian culture. The relationship was complicated, however. On one hand, Hippos lived in the life-giving Nile River, so they received honor and respect and were seen as symbols of rebirth...but on the other hand, Hippos were dangerous. and would eat newly planted wheat, overturn ships, and were all around quite deadly.
