The gray wolf, also known as the timber wolf and the western wolf, is the largest wolf species on the planet. Famous for traveling in packs, each group has an alpha male and female. When a wolf wants to communicate with its pack or other packs, they let out a piercing howl.
Gray wolves are a common and respected symbol in many different cultures around the world. Although some individuals, especially farmers, revile them since they’ve been known to prey upon livestock, wolves are predominantly respected and admired. In fact, early man's companionship with the gray wolf was one of the biggest components in the eventual domestication of canines.
